Bay Head and Manto

Mantoloking : the shores I call my home.

I’ve been all over the Atlantic Ocean coastline up and down the east coast from Maine to Florida. No beach is home to me like shores of Mantoloking an hour and a half from my house.

Fun fact, when my great-grandfather bought our house on the ocean, you bought the beach itself with the house. As time went on and ordinances changed, one thing did not: Mantoloking is almost entirely made up of private beaches. This means when you look to the right or left of your spot on the sand, the only people there are your neighbors (and never is there a time all of your neighbors are out).

It’s a little pocket of sunshine and peace I will NEVER take for granted.

I love walking around downtown Bay Head, especially this time of year. The hydrangeas are in bloom and parts of town literally look like 4th of July literally threw up on them (in the BEST way possible - I love it!!)   I love shopping at Andi’s right in town, after my coffee and crumb cake from Muellers.    The BEST is their raspberry crumb cake, no morning sweet can compare. In the long depths of January we dream of mornings like this: walking past Charlie’s (the beautiful restaurant on my left) with our raspberry crumb cake, breathing in the salty air.

In my blog post from Rockefeller Center with all of the hydrangeas, I mentioned how my love for these flowers came from Bay Head and Mantoloking.

Now you can see why.

When you get to Bay Head, don’t miss out on going to Waterlily. It is one of my favorite shore shops! Situated on a side-street in Bay Head, it has the quaint feel of everything we love about beachy style.

Plus, the girls are always so nice in there!

We got caught up talking about old Taylor Swift songs and how much we love her music no matter how many times we hear it.

Another great boutique is Andi’s! Situated right next to the bakery in Bay Head, it’s Beach flare is just darling. It’s a Bay Head must when you’re passing through.   I group Bay Head and Mantoloking together because Mantoloking is a little more residential than Bay Head and they are so close it’s as if they are one town.   They have the same “feel” to them, different than other shore towns not too far away.    The Jersey shore is made up of sections that all have certain “feels”  to them. Families generally find one they like and commit to it, going every year. This creates a strong sense of community and pride for whatever beach town you and your family choose.

My dress and swim suit are from J. Crew. The swimsuit is now ON SALE! My sandals are Jack Rogers, my sunglasses are mentioned on my “Hot and Humid in Hoboken” post, and shhhhhh here’s a sneak peak of what’s coming to J. Shotmeyer 😉
